Francesca Caferri is foreign affairs editor at Il Venerdì di Repubblica, the main Italian magazine, and a senior correspondent for the World Affairs section of La Repubblica, one of the main Italian dailies.

Since 7 October 2023 she has been the leading reporter following the events in Israel/Palestine for La Repubblica. In over 15 years of work, she has provided extensive international news coverage, specializing in human rights and major international events, with an emphasis on the Middle East. During the last few years she has reported from Lebanon, Palestine, Israel, Pakistan, Iraq, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Morocco, Qatar, Yemen and Nigeria.

She was awarded in 2005 the highest prize for Italian journalists (the Saint Vincent journalism prize), in 2012 she was awarded with the “Colomba d’oro per la pace” prize for her 10 years of reporting in the name of the dialogue between different civilitazions, and both the Italian literary award “Premio Fregene” and the international “Mediterranean journalism award” of the Anna Lindh Foundation for her book Paradise under the feet of women: women and the future of the muslim world (Mondadori, 2012). She also published the e-book Beyond the veil: a portrait of new Italians (Mondadori, 2013). Her most recent book is Non chiamatemi straniero: viaggio fra gli italiani di domain (Mondadori, 2014).

Francesca obtained a certificate in Islamic studies in 2007 from PISAI, the Pontifical Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies. She speaks English and Spanish fluently and has a basic knowledge of French and Arabic. She lives in Rome.
