Asmae Dachan is an Italian-Syrian journalist, photographer, and writer.
She is a part-time lecturer in Multimedia Arabic at the University of Macerata and a counselor for the Order of Journalists of the Marche region. She contributes to various publications, including Avvenire, Confronti, Vita non Profit, Oasis, Senza Filtro, L’Espresso, Venerdì di Repubblica, and Valigia Blu, with a focus on the Middle East, human rights, interreligious dialogue, and labor issues. She has worked in Syria, Jordan, Turkey, Belgium, Greece, England, Ethiopia, and Tanzania.
She is a Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic, Peace Ambassador of the University of Switzerland for Peace, and a volunteer for the Italian Red Cross. She is a witness for the Centro Astalli (Jesuit Refugee Service in Italy) for the Journalism Focus project and the Literature and Exile project. She is the creator and author of the blog "Diario di Siria – Writing to rediscover the value of human life" and the podcast "Siria, guerra e gelsomini."
As an author, she has written award-winning novels and poetic collections recognized in various competitions. Her latest book is "Cicatrice su tela" (Castelvecchi publisher, May 2022), winner of the 2022 Nadia Toffa Prize.
