Lucia Goracci

TG3

Lucia Goracci, formerly a correspondent and head of RAI's Istanbul bureau, is now a special correspondent for Tg3 and has been covering major Middle Eastern wars for 20 years.

She was in Iran during the Green Wave protests (2009) and more recently reported from the frontlines of the fight against ISIS. She was among the few international journalists to document, from inside the siege, the Kurdish Syrian town of Kobane's resistance against the caliphate (September 2014 – January 2015). She later covered the liberation of Raqqa and Baghouz, as well as the offensive to retake Mosul (October 2016 – July 2017).

For RAI, she reported on the failed coup attempt in Turkey, where she conducted one of the few international interviews—an exclusive for Italy—with Turkish President Erdoğan (August 2016).

In August 2020, she was at the Beirut port following the explosion of 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate and covered the ensuing protests.

In August 2021, she reported on the end of NATO's mission in Afghanistan and the terrorist attack at Kabul airport. In the following months, she produced a series of exclusive reports on the Afghan Islamic Emirate, traveling across the country from north to south.

Having covered the Israel-Hamas wars of 2008-09 and 2014 from Gaza, she was, from October 2023, reporting from Israel and the Palestinian Territories, Lebanon (covering the killing of Nasrallah), and Syria (covering the fall of Assad's regime).

Her work as a war correspondent has earned her several awards, including the Antonio Russo, Ilaria Alpi, Luigi Barzini, Maria Grazia Cutuli, Luchetta, Biagio Agnes, Mario Francese, Premiolino, and Scalfari prizes.
