Dr François Nel is Reader [Associate Professor] in Media Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the University of Central Lancashire in Preston, UK, home to England’s oldest university journalism course. There he leads the pioneering postgraduate Journalism Innovation and Leadership Programme, supported by the Google News Initiative and International Media Support. He is a member of the Media Innovation Studio and the Research Centre for Digital Life, and also the first academic invited to be an executive member of the World Editors Forum of WAN-IFRA, the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers. François established the annual World News Publishers Outlook report and is also an editor of World Press Trends, which has been produced by WAN-IFRA since 1989.
