Vladimir Luxuria, activist and writer, was the first transgender elected to the Italian Parliament - in 2006, as an independent in the Rifondazione Comunista party. A graduate in Foreign Languages and Literature, in the 1990s she moved to Rome, where she joined the Circolo di Cultura Omosessuale Mario Mieli, for which she became artistic director and organizer of the Muccassassina events. She was also among the organizers of the first Gay Pride in Italy. She has appeared in many films including Come mi vuoi (1996), Tutti giù per terra (1996), Guardami (1999) and L'eletta (2006), while for the theater, besides acting, she was co-author of My name is Silvia (2006), La donna uomo (2010) and Si sdrai per favore (2010). She has presented for Radio Capital the programmes Cuore e Luxuria and Luxuria si sveglia a mezzanotte.
She is the author of Chi ha paura della Muccassassina? Il mio mondo in discoteca e viceversa (Bompiani, 2007), Le favole non dette (Bompiani 2009), Eldorado (Bompiani, 2011), L'Italia migliore (Bompiani, 2013), Il coraggio di essere una farfalla (with Stefano Genovese, Piemme 2017) and Perù aiutami tu (Piemme, 2018).
