Steve Scherer has been the Reuters political correspondent in Rome since 2011. From 1998 to 2000 he worked for Bridge News in Italy, and then worked for Bloomberg from 2000 to 2011, also in Rome. Born and raised in Muncie, Indiana, he has a degree in English Literature from Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana, obtaining his master's degree from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism, Evanston, Illinois. He was a finalist for the Gerald Loeb Award for articles on economics in 2003. Scherer came for the first time to Italy (to Bergamo) with Intercultura in 1986-87, when he was a high school student.
