Francesca Rossi

IBM Global Leader, AI Ethics (via video)

Francesca Rossi is IBM’s Global Leader for Artificial Intelligence Ethics and an IBM Fellow. She works at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center in New York, USA, where she leads research projects in the field of Artificial Intelligence—an area in which she has worked throughout her career and on which she has published more than 220 scientific articles.

She earned her degree in Computer Science at the University of Pisa, where she later obtained a Ph.D. in Computer Science. She then served as a full professor of Computer Science at the University of Padova for 20 years before joining IBM, where she founded the committee for AI ethics.

She has been a member of the European Commission’s expert group on AI and collaborates on various aspects of AI ethics with the United Nations, the World Economic Forum, the OECD, the Partnership on AI, and the Global Partnership on AI.

She is the current president of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI). For Laterza, she is the author of Artificial Intelligence: How It Works and Where the Technology is Taking Us (2024).
