Charity Brown is head of Newsroom Product and Digital Initiatives at The Washington Post. During her 15-year tenure, Brown has worked on many projects from research and reporting in the financial section to managing the full-scale national coverage of the 2017 North American eclipse as a digital editor. Now, as a deputy director, she works with departments across the company — including engineering, product, legal, finance, customer care, information security, advertising, communications and human resources — to help find, create, cultivate and update software to improve newsroom workflow and provide a better reader experience. Brown also procures and manages vendor software, facilitates the creation and maintenance of Post applications and supervises major enterprise projects for the newsroom such as an organization-wide effort to categorize and streamline content.
