Alexander Baunov is a journalist, publicist, philologist, and a former diplomat. He is the author of the best-seller The End of the Regime: How Three European Dictatorships Ended, as well as other books and guides on Athens (Afisha) and Greece (Around the World).
A former diplomat (at the Russian Embassy in Athens) and later a journalist for international media (Russian Newseek), Baunov is currently a researcher in international politics and modern history at the Carnegie Center in Berlin for the Study of Russia and Eurasia, previously at the Carnegie Center in Moscow.
He is the editor-in-chief of the websites carnegie.ru (closed by Russian authorities in 2022) and carnegie.politika. His articles and analyses have been published in the New York Times, Financial Times, Wall Street Journal, and other Russian and foreign press.
Baunov lives in Berlin and Florence, where he serves as a visiting scholar at the European University Institute.
