Peter Leonard has been the Central Asia editor for Eurasianet, a website focusing on under-reported regions of the former Soviet Union, since 2015. Previously, he worked as the AP correspondent in Ukraine, covering the war in the east of that country, and headed the English-language desk of Moscow-based news agency RIA Novosti. From 2008 to 2013, he was Central Asia correspondent for the AP. A native of Ireland, Leonard speaks fluent Russian, Italian and Maltese as well as some French.
