Lina al Hafez
Lina al Hafez is an award-winning filmmaker, journalist, researcher and lecturer with over 20 years of experience in audiovisual media, currently managing the multimedia editorial section of UntoldStories/SyriaUntold. Her films have qualified in competitions of renowned festivals such as Sundance, Vision du Réel and DMZ Docs, and her televised collaborations included the BBC, Channel 4 and the MBC network, among many others. Her investigative and research work has focused on health and environmental issues, as well as gender in cinema and audiovisual production.
She is currently writing her PhD thesis elaborating strategies of audiovisual communication with a focus on AI-assisted sentiment analysis, while teaching MA students of contemporary audiovisual culture. Lina holds an MA degree in film studies from Essex university, a BA in media and journalism from Damascus university and is a Chevening Alumni, a member of the UNESCO Chair for Intercultural Dialogue in the Mediterranean and a selection committee member at the Arab Film Festival of Catalunya.
