Karl Malakunas is a journalist for Agence France-Presse who turned a 700-word article for AFP on environmental defenders in the Philippines into Delikado, a feature-length film that was nominated for an Emmy award for Outstanding Investigative Documentary, won the Walkley Award for Longform Documentary and 20 international film festival awards.
Karl has worked at AFP since 2001, reporting from dozens of countries and leading newsrooms across the Asia-Pacific. He is currently AFP’s Head of Philanthropic Partnerships, where he is expanding the agency’s capacities to conduct in-depth and consequential journalism, including through documentary.
