Ilaria Cucchi set up in November 2016 the Stefano Cucchi Association to preserve the memory of her brother, Stefano Cucchi, who died on 22 October 2009 in the Sandro Pertini Hospital in Rome while under arrest. She is the author of Vorrei dirti che non eri solo (2010) and co-author with Fabio Anselmi of Il coraggio e l'amore (2019).
