founder Naples Star Judo Club
Giovanni Maddaloni, a former regional judo champion, founded in 1980 the sports association Naples Star Judo Club, with the objective of attracting young people away from organized crime in the tough neighborhood of Scampia. The project was expanded in 2005 when, again in Scampia, the Piazzetta of Sport was inaugurated, a center that welcomes children with disabilities and the blind. The association has been praised by the Ministry of Justice for the social commitment of young people recovering from difficult past linked to crime.
