Donatella Sciuto is Vice Rector and Professor of Computer Engineering in the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering of the Polytechnic of Milan.
She holds a degree in Electronic Engineering at Politecnico di Milano in 1984 and a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 1988. He also holds a Master in Business and Administration from the School of Business Management at the Bocconi University in 1991 .
Her research activities are in the Electronic Design Automation sector and computer architectures, covering in particular design methodologies for embedded systems. More recently she has dealt with the practical problems linked to the use of ICT within the realization of smart cities, where embedded systems and sensor networks are the basic technological infrastructure components.
She has co-authored more than 90 articles in international scientific journals and more than 300 articles in international conferences. She is co-author of four international patents in the area of processor architectures with ST Microelectronics. She has also published two research monographs and educational books in the IT sector.
Since 2013 she has been a member of the Board of the Bank of Italy.
She was Vice President of Finance of the IEEE Council on Electronic Design Automation from 2008 to 2010, then IEEE President Elect and President from 2011 to 2013. She is currently a member of the IEEE Fellows Committee.
