Cristi Hegranes is the CEO and publisher of Global Press, an award-winning organization that produces ethical, accurate global news. She founded Global Press in 2006 with a vision to create a new model for international journalism that prioritizes dignity, diversity, and transparency.
With over 17 years of experience in the media industry, Cristi has developed a unique set of competencies that enable her to lead the business and editorial sides of Global Press. She is an expert in local journalist security, and she created the industry-leading Global Press Duty of Care program to provide for the physical, emotional, digital, and legal security of journalists. She is also the lead author of the Global Press Style Guide, which promotes greater precision and dignity in global journalism.As an Ashoka Fellow and a Dial Fellow at Emerson Collective, Cristi is part of a network of social entrepreneurs who are dedicated to solving some of the world's most pressing problems. She is also an Adjunct Professor at Georgetown University, where she teaches a course on explorations of equity in global journalism. She is passionate about empowering local journalists to tell their own stories and to improve the global news industry and change the world. Cristi is the author of Byline: How Local Journalists Can Improve the Global News Industry and Change the World (Forbes 2023), a book that shares the lessons and insights from her journey with Global Press.
