Ching Yee Choo is a former correspondent for Nikkei in Malaysia. She was responsible for news coverage within Malaysia ranging from large cap stocks to corporate feature stories.
During her time with Nikkei, she has followed up on the 1Malaysia Development Berhad financial scandal, the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Rail development, and the continuing Islamisation in Malaysia. Before sinking her teeth into covering economic news in Malaysia, she covered a wide range of topics from corporate mergers and acquisitions in Australia to feature articles on alternative investments in Malaysia.
She started her journalism career in Australia specialising in mergers and acquisitions with Mergermarket, then associated with the Financial Times and Pearson. She later tried her hands at tackling long-form journalism, mostly on the topic of culture, with two other Malaysia-based publications before diving headlong into financial journalism again.
Ching Yee holds a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring on Journalism and Writing from Monash University and is on the way to completing her Master of Business Administration from the University of Nottingham. She is currently a Journalist Fellow at the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at the University of Oxford.
