Aela Callan is an award-winning film-maker and journalist who's passionate about reaching new audiences. She led digital strategy at Al Jazeera English's flagship Asian current affairs program 101 East, where she has produced over two dozen films and won several major awards, including two gold at the New York Festivals Film and TV Awards and the Croly Award for Excellence in Journalism Covering Issues of Concern to Women. At Stanford University, she was a 2014 Knight Fellow for journalism innovation, where she explored ways that media in Myanmar could counteract online hate speech and fake news. She currently lives in Berlin where she is developing a multi-user virtual reality documentary.
She is the producer of the 2017 Contrast VR and AJ+ film entitled I Am Rohinga.
