The many shapes of leaks: investigative reporting, data activism and digital resistance as truth-telling practices

In recent years, the whistleblowing agenda has advanced technically, legally and journalistically. This panel composed by journalists, activists and academics will map the advances in the right to tell the truth and set the course for work and research in the coming years. In particular, the panel will investigate “leaks” from a theoretical perspective, by mapping their current shapes and forms, their connections with the “data activism” movement and the tactics that journalists can adopt in order to successfully cooperate with whistleblowers and leakers. Moreover, the panel will also bring insights from two practitioners from the field: the GlobaLeaks software, one of the most adopted whistleblowing solicitation software, and the MexicoLeaks project, and investigative initiative grounded in leaks-powered reporting.
