With the advent of operators such as Netflix and Amazon, with the growth of on-demand TV and social media roles both as reaction carriers and true sources of inspiration for programmes and schedules, what is the European Union’s role in ensuring that there are up-to-date rules which are valid for all?

In the last few weeks, the European Parliament has been discussing a review of the audiovisual media directive to adapt current legislation to a scenario that, until recently, few people could have imagined. Among the challenges to be addressed are the creation of a more equitable and fair market for all operators in the sector, the protection of European production, and better safeguards for minors against so-called hate speech in particular.

Organised and sponsored by the European Parliament.
