George Arbuthnott is the Deputy Insight Editor at The Sunday Times newspaper in the UK. He is a multi-award winning investigative journalist who specialises in public interest stories, notably modern slavery and human rights abuses as well as corruption and cheating in sport. His two-year investigation exposing the extent of human trafficking in Britain helped prompt the first ant-slavery law in the UK since the 19th century and won Campaign of the Year at the British Journalism Awards. This year, his work revealing wide-scale doping in athletics has helped lead to the arrest of the former head of world athletics on suspicion of accepting more than $1m in bribes to cover up suspicious blood test results, the expulsion of Russia from international competition for running "a state-sponsored" doping programme that "sabotaged" the London Olympics and the suspension of Kenya's top athletics officials.
