Douce Namwezi N'Ibamba is a journalist and the director of the Women Media Association (AFEM) in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). When she was 16, she began talking on a local radio station, addressing youth issues such as child soldiers or children labeled "witches". Three years later, she joined AFEM as a radio producer.
In 2016, together with her colleagues, Douce founded MAMA Radio, the first thematic and community radio station in DRC, with its focus on gender equality. The station runs programming for 16 hours a day, and has 2 million listeners.
Douce has received many awards for her work, including the Courageous Action Award (2016) from the Center for Nonviolence and Peace Studies of the University of Rhode Island and a citation, in 2012, from UN WOMEN and the organizing committee of the World Congress of Global Partnership for Young Women in Seoul,South Korea, for her efforts on "New Strategies for Empowering Women".
Douce is also a trainer on journalism, gender, and women's leadership.
