More and more journalists are adding open source research methods (also called “OSINT”) to their investigative workflows. While tools are not everything, they often play a crucial role for cracking a case.

The problem: many journalists struggle to find and use the right tools at the right moment in time. This is why Bellingcat – together with volunteers and the wider open-source researcher community – has built a collaborative toolkit to provide orientation in the ever changing open-source research tools landscape.

In this session, we will introduce our collaborative toolkit and show how journalists and others can contribute to the kit which GIJN called “one of the most important gifts to investigative reporters in 2024.”
