AFP photojournalist Christina Assi nearly died when she was hit by Israeli tank fire while reporting in southern Lebanon on October 13, 2023. The attack killed her Reuters colleague and friend Issam Abdallah. She spent months in intensive care and had her right leg amputated. Christina will discuss the impact of this life-changing attack on her life. She will address her battle for accountability and the fragile state of press freedom for journalists working in hostile environments and war zones. And she will speak about her rehabilitation and her determination to walk, run and jumpstart her career as a photojournalist.
Cristina Assi will be in conversation with AFP news director Phil Chetwynd.
