The situation of the Kurdish people is becoming increasingly critical. President Trump's decision to withdraw American troops from Northern Syria paved the way for the Turkish offensive, and appeared as a betrayal of a people long at the forefront of the battle against ISIS. Attacked from two sides, the Kurds must now find a way to resist the threats that besiege them.
Nurcan Baysal, a Kurdish journalist and activist who is among the few who cover the conflict between her people and Turkey from the inside, will describe the complex political and humanitarian situation in the region and her personal commitment to peace and human rights.
Nurcan's 29 January 2020 Ahval article entitled Dancing around words as a Kurdish journalist provides an insight into the reality of reporting on, and living in, the "southeast of Turkey".
