"Science is not democratic": a slogan that has spread in the public debate, helping to raise a barrier between scientists on one side and conspiracy theorists or simple skeptics on the other. Yet, even within the scientific community, there is no lack of those who believe that on complex issues that require specific skills, demanding to know the CV of the interlocutor is a counterproductive attitude which harms the spread of scientific theories and the consensus that political decisions require given their impact on daily life. Vaccines, global warming or GMCs affect us all, yet not everyone has the background to understand the issues well. Specific technical knowledge is naturally the prerogative of a few, so is it necessary to integrate more and more scientific research and communication?
