"Giulio puts all of us in a dutiful position to give new meaning to words, actions, positions, and relationships and visions; because what they did to him could be no longer expressed in the language used in our Western society: what words, what emotions, what feelings? For this pain ..." (Paola Regeni, from her speech in Cambridge at the commemoration of Giulio Regeni)

More than a year after the death of Giulio Regeni, the Italian Cambridge University PhD student tortured and killed in Egypt, the search for the truth conducted by his family and by humanitarian organizations such as Amnesty International continues. Beyond the reticence and false leads of the Egyptian authorities, beyond the pain at such a ghastly and unjust death, the courage to stand at the forefront of human rights moves on, with the awareness that what happened to Giulio was not a tragic fatality, but a barbarism that can strike anywhere in many parts of the world.

To be followed by the documentary State murder in Cairo: the disappearance, torture and murder of Giulio Regeni.
