The journalism/academic divide in the post-truth era.

The session will focus on the ongoing challenges for researchers to make their work relevant to both journalists and the academy, and the frustration scholars can feel watching journalists repeat problematic practices and patterns that have been well documented by academic research - especially in the Trump/Brexit moment, when the stakes are so high.  But at the same time, a number of academically-based centers (Reuters, Tow, etc) attempt to straddle the academic/professional divide and create better conversation among researchers and journalists.  How can these and other research efforts make a difference in how journalism is produced?
