The environment: participatory journalism in the limelight

In Italy, environmental and participatory journalism runs parallel to mainstream information, without crossing it. How should we bring an ecological local problem to the attention of a national audience? How should we develop a successful collaboration among activists, journalists and influential newspapers? A collaborative blogging project, developed through the crowdsourcing platform MobileReporter and hosted on Repubblica.it and La Nuova Ecologia, will answer these questions. A dedicated online instrumentation allows eco-journalists to gather the contributions of citizens and process them to achieve professional inquiries, maintaining constant visibility to the public. Stories successfully accomplished and others to be developed will become case studies of this innovative experiment between old and new media.
