Since the return of Vladimir Putin to Kremlin in 2012 Russia’s media have been confronted with the heavy pressure from the authorities. Life has become much harder for the few independent media outlets daring to defy Kremlin’s instructions and censorship. Some have been destroyed, a number of editors adhering to free journalism have lost their jobs. How big is the niche occupied by the independent media in Putin’s Russia? How they are struggling for survival?
