South America is currently one of the most interesting areas worldwide in terms of economic and social development. From the social experiences of Cuba and Venezuela to the Argentinian crisis at the end of the twentieth century to the nationalism of President Kirchner and on to the rapid growth, not devoid of imbalances and social tensions, of Brazil. In this context, the media have a key role to play in recounting the successes and contradictions of a complex continent.
