Economic crisis and youth unemployment: towards a European governance?
European youth unemployment is rocketing. According to the latest European Commission employment report (March 2012), 1.6 million European citizens lost their jobs over the previous 12 months. The average European unemployment rate is over 10% while the youth unemployment rate is at 22.4%, with peaks of over 50% in Greece and Spain. No European country can resolve this problem by itself. Concerted Europe-wide growth policies are required. But is European governance up to the challenge?
