After more than six months of war, the unprecedented toll on Palestinian journalists who are covering a war while trying to survive is catastrophic on a personal level as well as for journalism and press freedom more broadly. The Israel-Gaza war is simply the most dangerous conflict for journalists ever documented by the Committee to Protect Journalists. The war has claimed the lives of more journalists in three months than have ever been killed in a single country over an entire year. Of the 95 journalists killed since the war began, 90 are Palestinian (as of April 11). As the global journalistic community and its allies gather in Perugia for the 2024 International Journalism Festival, it is a golden opportunity to show up for our colleagues, to undertake a gesture of solidarity.
We invite you to stand in a moment of silence and solidarity with journalists in Gaza, who are suffering an unimaginable toll and whose daily work keeps us informed with facts that shed light on the human condition and help to hold power to account.
Venue: steps outside the Sala dei Notari, Palazzo dei Priori, piazza IV Novembre, Perugia.
Organised by Committee to Protect Journalists.
